NEW LOOK - Connaught Place

23rd Jan 2011, New Delhi

First part of series covering Lutyens' Delhi

Delhi has its own charm with a heritage going back to centuries. At the heart of the city lies one of the oldest setup of the colonial India – Connaught Place (CP). With hoards of retails outlets, restaurant, business center it is the epicenter of Delhi’s business.

Its surroundings occupy a place of pride amongst the heritage structures of the city. It was developed as a showpiece of Lutyens' Delhi featuring a Central Business District. Named after the Duke of Connaught, the construction work was started in 1929 and completed in 1933. It was renamed as the Rajeev Chowk after the late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

CP recently got a facelift thanks to the Common Wealth Games (CWG’2010). The new look has further enhanced its charm. Roaming around CP is always a fun and is a must visit place if you are in Delhi.

Two facet of life

18th Jan 2011, New Delhi

Life is full of disparity – at one end people are homeless (living along the roadside) while others are living in the comfort of a car (capturing pictures)….

Is it good for the nation?

May be or may not be. But I think disparity should be there - a healthy one. But before we talk about disparity the society/nation should raise to a level where all the people can at least meet their basic need – food, clothes and shelter (roti, kapada aur makaan). Once the basic enmities have been met then having disparity would be positive sign. It would encourage a healthy competition, not for survival but for prosperity. And when it occurs the nation would grow much faster. The growing nation would further lift people’s life …

But saying that is not enough. It’s the duty of each individual to work for it – for every human in this world..
